A Man in the Dark

OK OK for some of us girls that must be one of our favourite things.  This man was hitching, late at night, on a main road, no street lights, almost in the middle of no-where about 10 miles from my house as I was on the way home tonight.  I had braked and stopped the car almost before I had even thought about what I was doing.

He needed to get about another 50 miles to the next big city.  Although that road has traffic on it 24 hours a day there are not many places that people would stop.  He had been South looking for work and had landed up back here a long way from home.  I dropped him at the 24 hour garage where I knew that he would get a lift as there are truckers in and out of there all night and most of them will be going in his direction.

It was just such a small thing to do, easy for me, yet many people would have been too frightened to stop.  There are many small things in our lives that we don’t do. We cook up all sorts of reasons for not doing them and often at the root of all of this is some sort of fear.  So just take one small step in that direction.  What is the worst that can happen?

I can guarantee that you will feel better just by doing that one small thing. Like I did.  There was a truck at the garage and he was getting in the cab as I drove away.
