Silence is golden
I’ve had an exhaust problem. I’ve been driving with lacking a silencer. If you ever thought they didn’t do very much then think again. I can’t really describe the pain. I was tortured for hours. I drove to 5 different work locations this week.
Eventually I was saved by two bits of foam – ear plugs. I noticed that once I had only a muffled roar reaching me I perceived the world very differently. Moderating my hearing seemed to affect also how I saw things and I felt somehow less connected with the world. It was an odd phenomenon.
I have read that when you lose one of your senses the other ones become keener. hat would it be like if you could induce that without actually losing the other sense but just temporarily restricting it and learning to use the other senses better?
How would it be if we did more things with one of our senses occluded or reduced in acuity? How about if you cooked or gardened with a peg on your nose, or listened to music whilst blindfolded or went on a photography trip with ear plugs in? Your body and brain are great experimental tools. How can you use them to study today?
