Walts comments are what orientals call living in the moment. We are aware of the things around us, the life force that is keeping it all going but we don't focus on any one thing thus we can appreciate it all.
The goal of meditaions such as tai chi and chi kung is to extend the moment for as long as possible. In the moment we deal only what is now (which paradoxically is everything) and when we have dealt with something we move on to the next with out allowing the mind to dwell on that which we have dealt with.
